don’t call it a comeback

How I’ve Missed You…..
So it’s been an insane amount of time since I’ve written, shame on me.  Life on the other side - as in post-graduation - has been very eventful and has now come to a sort of lull, or rather, stability that allows me to remind myself of something I’m supposed to be, a writer.  That being said PLEASE do yourself a favor and read Alan Moore’s “Watchmen.” Forget the hype of the movie, which does look visually amazing but will probably fall short of the graphic novel.  By far one of the most rich and complex pieces of literature I’ve ever read- Moore’s a mad genius.  Lest I ruin too much, I’ll stop there.

…and Fashion
I sit here, on my couch, in my Calvin Klein’s (courtesy of Angie’s suggestion lol) recently back from my first fashion show of 2009’s Fashion Week.  I must say, I’m sadly disappointed.  It was to be Kahri’s presentation for the upcoming seasons, and I thought it was going to be just that but it was actually a joint show of various designers collection - no bueno.  In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Garment Industry Development Corporation, the show, aptly titled “Twenty Five The Show” included samples of 15 different designers collections.  Translation: too few pieces by too many people in too short a time. Because it was a show with 15 designers (and inexperienced models) things were jumbled and rushed at times.  While there were some good pieces, the venue made it difficult for half the audience to full appreciate the show (as you’ll be able to see with my dim pictures).  Kahri’s shows are generally in smaller, more intimate venues which allows for a fuller appreciation of the collection and an overall better experience.  Hopefully her next show will be more her usual than this attempt at u.n.i.t.y.

Venue: Hudson Theater

Designers: Deibe Rondon, Nature vs. Future, Anna Maria Horsford, 2Fer, Sheila Elaine, Gina DeSilva, Chulette, Francoise Olivas, La China Loca, Audrey & Me, Kahri by KahriAnne Kerr, Eva Kurshid, Dres, Dinna Soliman, Heather Huey

FW- Part II

There were too many shows for me to not do another posting on the goings-ons.  Here are a few more noteable designers to check out.

Vera Wang: Tulle, black, lots of dresses and a little street edge comprise the spring collection of Ms. Wang.  Known best, I feel, for her gowns and wedding dresses, this was certainly a more casual side; the shiny cigarette pants are of the moment, along with the bold necklace look and overall muted color selection.  With the contrast between flowy or sheath dresses and geometric basics, it wasn’t exactly what I expected, in terms of femininity. But, there are some great separates that can add sex appeal and sophistication to any wardrobe.
