Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week ‘08

I was scheduled to attend Kahri’s show this season, which I was really looking forward to but, due to the horrid residual hurricane weather, my friend and I decided to forgo the trip. Boo hoo. So all I’m left to comment on are the details of shows which I was never slated to go to (at least not currently, but one day soon….). While browsing New York Magazine’s fashion coverage online, I was further edified on what designers are doing and what to look forward to in the far distant upcoming spring season. I had read about some shows already and have chosen a few to discuss here myself.

Betsey Johnson: Love this woman but gotta admit that most of her stuff is still too far fetched for me. While the attraction to her designs is the manifestation of her overwhelming personality in her clothes and the cute-tackiness of her combinations (which is way more palatable in her shoes), her runway collection is an exaggeration of what can normally been seen in her store. There were florals galore, as per the usual, as well as a hint of pirate and a sprinkling of prairie-gone-Victorian, with underwear as outerwear (e.g. ‘bone’ hoop underskirts). Oh and apparently rompers are back too.
